There are a wide range of business hotels in Singapore ensuring that you are able to select a hotel that suits your style, your needs when you’re in Singapore, and the location you desire. On this trip I decided to stay at the Swissotel The Stamford, which is right in the centre of town on the edge of Marina Bay. The hotel and district is named after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles the founder of modern Singapore.
It’s a beautiful hotel, but what really impressed me was the service – outstanding from every individual I met – from the doorman, the front of house staff, reception, the concierge, the lift attendant, through to the restaurant staff. They are incredibly well trained and really go out of their way to look after you and make you feel valued as a client. This is what makes a great hotel – one you remember and one you want to come back to!
The Stamford is a large hotel and one of the tallest buildings in Singapore. On arrival by taxi from the airport (about 25 minutes travelling time), I was warmly greeted as I entered the lobby by one of the roaming staff members. They quickly directed me to reception where I was served immediately by a very friendly, professional front desk staff member.
My booking was found efficiently and the check-in staff member was delighted to offer me an upgrade to a Marina Bay view room. He was clearly excited for me to be offered this upgrade, and it was a really nice touch given that I had booked a standard room. Check-in took a couple of minutes including explaining the features of the hotel; where the restaurants, the pool, the gym were located; and about accessing the free wifi. He then directed me to the lifts and I was on my way to my room on the 33rd floor.
Upon entering my room I was immediately blown away by the view, looking right across Marina Bay towards the Marina Bay Sands Hotel – spectacular!
The room was beautifully set up with two double beds, a desk area for working, as well as a well-stocked bathroom.
The room also had a small balcony allowing you to get some fresh air, which is always appreciated when you are travelling for extended periods of time. The room was well air-conditioned, something that is essential in an extremely humid city like Singapore.
The location of the Swissotel the Stamford is fantastic. You are very close to a range of attractions that would be of interest to first time and return visitors. There also are some very unique buildings nearby, including the Supreme Court building with the flying saucer-like rooftop, and the Singapore Cricket Club which is the centre of the National Day celebrations held every August.
Also in this district are the ArtScience Museum, the Suntec Convention Centre and the Esplanade – Theatres by the Bay. Gardens by the Bay is also close by. What I love about being in a high-rise hotel are the views, particularly when you’re near the water. My favourite time is around sunset, it’s then that the views are simply stunning.
The hotel has a aesthetically pleasing, well-designed lobby bar area where you can purchase cakes and coffee, as well as just sit and relax.
There are multiple restaurants within the hotel, including Café Swiss where breakfast is served, as well as the French restaurant, European restaurant, Cantonese kitchen, Japanese restaurant, and a buffet which is largely Asian but also includes halal offerings. The hotel is conveniently connected to an enormous shopping centre where there is a wide variety of shops catering to your every need.
