Convenient Stopover Hotel
On a recent business trip, heading to Europe through Bangkok, I needed a night at a hotel near the Bangkok airport because my flight the next morning on Finnair was leaving at 9am. I chose the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel, here’s what I found.
The Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel is conveniently located right at the airport, saving you that long trip to downtown Bangkok. It’s ideal if you’re coming in late in the afternoon as I was, and leaving early the next morning.
The good thing about the Novotel is that it is walking distance from the terminal however, the hotel also provides a free shuttle service as well. The shuttle service is a godsend if you have lots of luggage.
When you arrive at this expansive hotel you are greeted by an array of different restaurants, bars and other services throughout the middle of the foyer area. The check-in counters are situated centrally in the back area of the foyer. There are four or five counters in a circular set up available for guest check-in.
My check-in was completed very quickly and I was pointed in the direction of the lifts, located on the left-hand side of the hotel. This side of the hotel provides rooms overlooking the carpark and the airport itself. On previous stays I have had rooms on the right-hand side of the hotel with which overlook the pool are, which I have to say is my preferred side of this hotel.
I booked a king room and when I arrived at the room it was beautifully presented. Coming in from the entrance, on the right is the bathroom with a full tub designed for elegant soaking, which I love.
The bathroom was well set up with all that you could possibly require. It had an internal window so you could see through from the bath into the bedroom. There were blinds in place, so if you require more privacy this wouldn’t be the place for you. I’ve never been a big fan of windows between bathrooms and bedrooms. The benefit of this one was that in the daytime hours you had direct light coming in through the window of the room to the bathroom.
Moving through into the bedroom – the king bed was on the right. Apart from the bed itself here was a very comfortable and well appointed seating area near the windows, a large area to work with a writing desk, as well as a TV and minibar area.
The king-size bed was very comfortable and was positioned with switches on the left and right to control reading lights as well as a panel where you could control everything in the room; from the air-conditioning, to the master switch for lights, to room service.
All in all it was a well designed hotel room.
After settling in I decided to go for a bit of a walk in the fresh air. I wanted some time to clear my mind and prepare myself for the evening and my longer journey to Europe in the morning. There are some pretty gardens outside of the hotel to wander through but be aware that they are close to the road, and of course you could hear the aircraft noise from the airport.
Drinking and Eating
On the ground floor of the hotel there is a nice bar area and several restaurants. The bar has a wide range of meals available with drinks. Breakfast is often be included in your room rate at this hotel, which is a full buffet.
The buffet has a wide variety to choose including pastries and danishes; cheese; bread; a good selection of juices and cereals; as well as a large variety of hot food. You will be able to find something to suit most tastes, from Thai and Indian, to an English breakfast, and healthier options including fresh fruit.
I decided on an English breakfast and some juice which got my morning off to a nice start.
The convenient thing about staying at the Novotel is that when it’s time to return to the airport for your flight, you’re only a very short shuttle away. It’s very convenient to be able to get into the shittle and get to the terminal quickly to check-in for your onward flight.
Expert Traveller Recommends…
The Novotel at Bangkok Airport is a well appointed and very conveniently located hotel, particularly if you are arriving late in the afternoon or the evening and connecting the next morning. I would recommend this hotel if you have the time to spend an hour or two by the pool enjoying the Thai heat, it really does help get over the jet leg.
